The 2010 Central Pennsylvania Krunch 12U Junior Olympic Fastpitch team won the American Softball Association (ASA) Class “A” Baseliners Halloween Classic in Sterling, VA, played on October 24 and 25, 2009. The only Pennsylvania team in the tourney, the Krunch topped a field of 17 teams from Virginia and Maryland. The Krunch went 6-0 for the weekend and outscored their opponents 36 – 1, beating the 2009 Virginia State Champion 12U team, the McLean Mystics in the finals. The Krunch also won the USSSA Octoberfest 13U Tournament in Shippensburg, PA over the weekend of October 9 and 10, 2009. In that tournament, the Krunch went 5-1, primarily against older competitors from Pennsylvania and Maryland. By winning the tournament, the Krunch qualified for the 2010 USSSA World Series in Kissimmee, FL. In September, the Krunch finished as a Finalist in the rain-shortened USSSA Fear the Fastpitch 13U Tournament in Glen Bernie, MD. In this event the Krunch went a perfect 3-0. Overall, after playing several other non-tournament games, this group of athletes from all over Central Pennsylvania finished the Fall season with an incredible 19-2 record, competing primarily against 13U and 14U competition. This summer, the Krunch will compete in 10 Class “A” tournaments in the Mid-Atlantic region of the U.S., primarily in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and Delaware before competing for a national championship against some of the top 12U Junior Olympic Teams from all over the country.

The 14U Krunch team has completed their fall season. The team participated in the Schuylkill fall league where Sunday double headers were played against high school teams such as Pine Grove, Blue Mountain and Schuylkill Haven. The girls went 4-4 during these games. On 10/24 & 10/25, the team played in the 15U USSSA Trick or Treat National Qualifier in Shippensburg, Pa. Play was cancelled on Saturday 10/24 and then resumed on Sunday where the girls went 2-2 and placed fourth in a field with several 15U teams. The season ended with the girls playing in the 14U USSSA Fall Festival in Harleysville, Pa. on 10/31 & 11/1. The girls went 0-2-1 in pool play with three very close games all of which were decided by one run or less. Play was cancelled on Sunday 11/1. The girls will resume off season workouts in mid-November.

ANNOUNCEMENT: The Central Pennsylvania Krunch 16u Girls Junior Olympic Softball Team has accepted an invitation to play at the Scenic City College Showcase in Chattanooga, Tn. June 17th to June 20th. The Krunch was part of a select list of teams pre-approved for the event due to their success at recent national tournaments as well as college showcases. The event will be held at the Frost Warner Softball Complex. The venue has hosted the SEC and Southern Conference Softball Championships along with ASA Gold Nationals. Krunch 16u will venture into the south to play in front of college coaches and scouts from high profile programs that include: Tennessee, Georgia, Mississippi, Georgia Tech, Kennesaw State, Alabama, Texas A&M, Mississippi State, and many more. The team is managed by Steve Mumma and coached by Ted Klee, Keith Kotchey, and Darrell High. Budget and fundraising coordinator is Kelly Ferrara, and the team travel coordinator is Karen Bollinger. Players include: Hayley Bollinger, Donegal; Taylor Brintzenhoff, Brandywine; Madison Derr, Warwick; Hanna Edwards, Cumberland Valley; Emily Ferrara, Hershey; Katie Foran, Central Dauphin; Sarah Groft, New Oxford; Aerika High, Manheim Central; Tara Klee, Hamburg; Madison Kotchey, Lower Dauphin; Allison Lloyd, Lewisburg; Rachael Mumma, Cumberland Valley; and Mary Ward, Greencastle-Antrim.
