Save 2nd Base Champions

By Sawdey, 10/08/18, 9:30AM EDT

It was a long weekend with late start times that had the girls playing under the lights for the championship game.

Saturday started of with the girls winning their first game against the Terror 14U Blue 9-5. The girls put up 5 runs in the first inning and followed that up with another 4 in the second. The girls played a solid defensive game in support of their pitchers and only allowed 5 runs to cross the plate.

The second game was against the Anne Arundel Heat 14U. The girls put up 5 runs on 8 hits and held the Heat to only 1 run on 4 hits. Again, it was solid pitching and defense that locked down the Heat to secure the win with a score of 5-1.

The third game Saturday was canceled because of field conditions.

The first game Sunday was supposed to be at 11:40 am and didn’t end up starting until 3:40 pm which meant the families and girls had plenty of time to hang out and go shopping.

The first game Sunday was against the Maryland Legends 14U. The girls were trailing going into the bottom of the 6th inning by a score of 5-1. They dug deep and put up 4 runs in their half of the inning as time ran out to force ITB, and these girls know how to play ITB. The Legends were only able to plate one run in their half of ITB and left the door wide open for our Krunch Girls. They did not disappoint. They pushed their first run across and end up with bases loaded and two outs. The next hit is a shot at the SS and she bobbles it allowing the winning run to score. Final score 7-6!

Championship game starts with the sun sinking and the lights coming on. The Churchville Lightning are the home team and tie up the score at the bottom of the first inning 1-1. It was a back and forth game with the score tied up at 3-3 going into the 5th and final inning. The Krunch girls start their half of the 5th inning putting up 4 runs before the Lightning start their final at bats. With the tying run on second base and the winning run at home and 2 outs, with a full count, the batter hits a routine ground ball for the final out. Krunch wins the championship game 7-6!

It was a long weekend with all the delays, but these girls dug deep and never gave up fighting for the win in the tough games.

Keep up the work ladies!

Go Blue!
